Congratulation Lisa Göschl, MD, PhD on successfully completing your Habilitation!
This achievement reflects many years of dedicated clinical work, research, and commitment to rheumatology. Well done Lisa, we are proud of you!
Mar 19, 2026
We recently celebrated 30 years of academic rheumatology in Austria at the Josephinum in Vienna.
For us, this milestone is less about looking back and more about recognizing how far our field has come. Tools like capillaroscopy and ultrasound, once far from routine care, are now central to precision medicine.
What gives us the most confidence for the future is the strong link between research, clinical care, and patients and, as we witnessed during this event, this next chapter is already underway.

Where does immune protection end and immune-driven damage begin?
This question will be at the center of the upcoming SHIELD Symposium, organized by the SHIELD Securing Host Immunity Eliminaton vs Destruction consortium with strong involvement from our team, including our PhD student Laura Hermann.
By connecting tumor immunology, host immunity, and immune-mediated inflammatory diseases, this meeting will bridge fields that are closely linked but often discussed separately. We warmly invite everyone interested in inflammation and immunity to join us.

We recently took part in the second virtual consortium meeting of the DarkMatter project, a valuable moment to reflect on progress and align on the next scientific steps.
DarkMatter, led by Thomas Vogl, is an ambitious project that aims to uncover the “dark matter” of immune-related non-communicable diseases by exploring how infectious exposures, immune dysregulation, and host factors interact over time and lead to the establishment of auto-immune diseases.
Our team, recently reinforced by our new PostDoc Juan Manuel Sacnun, contributes in particular to questions related to rheumatic diseases and T-lymphocytes, helping to interpret immune and molecular signals in a clinical and disease-specific context. After this successful meeting, we look forward to the next phase of the project with new exciting research avenues to pursue!

🎉Happy New Year 2026 from the Bonelli Lab!
A major highlight to kick off the year:
We are proud to be a key contributor to the newly funded PHARAO project (PHARmacogenomics of psoriatic Arthritis using multiOmics) supported by EP PerMed – the European Partnership for Personalised Medicine. This ambitious initiative will advance precision medicine in psoriatic arthritis by integrating pharmacogenomics with multi-omics data to better understand treatment responses and tailor care for patients.
Looking ahead in 2026, we are especially excited to forge new collaborations with clinical, computational, and industry partners that amplify our impact, to embrace bold, interdisciplinary approaches that will push the boundaries of what’s possible in personalized rheumatology research and to engage with patients and stakeholders to ensure our science translates into real-world benefits.
